Solar Entrepreneurship and Innovation

NB Institute for Rural Technology and Vikram Solar, India’s leading PV module manufacturer and EPC solutions provider today organised the National Exhibition and Conference on Connecting Solar Innovation with Entrepreneurship. The event was done in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology, Government. of India and Center of Excellence for Green Energy and Sensor Systems, IIEST in association with INSIC, Helsinki. Honorable Union Minister for Science & Technology, Environment, Forest, Climate Change, and Earth Sciences, Dr Harsh Vardhan graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

On the Occasion, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, “Under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, we have elaborate plans to reach the 175 GW renewable energy (100 GW of which is of solar) target by 2022. And for that we need fundamental research to be transformed into solution providing research.”He also added, “Today there is no doubt about the importance of solar. But we cannot just talk about solar. We need to provide leadership in innovation in Solar. And we have to make the solutions social. When innovation is accessible and is helping people, only then it is a success. And for that we need entreprenuers.  Government is behind you all, and we truly believe we can make positive changes happen.”

The one day event showcased innovation through display of various products and discussions on solar energy. These exhibits were done by research institutes, Universities, NGO’s, Industries, Individual Innovators, Government and Policy makers. Dr S P Gon Chaudhuri, President,  NB Institute for Rural Technology, Mr Gyanesh Chaudhary, MD and CEO, Vikram Solar, Mr Risto Isomaki, Environmentalist from Helsinki, Finland, Dr. A .N. Biswas, Commissioner, Govt of West Bengal and professors from the most premium institutes were amongst key speakers at the event and part of the panel discussion.

There was also a special presentation made by the members of the International Solar Innovation Council, Helsinki.Dr S P Gon Gon Chaudhuri, President,  NB Institute for Rural Technology, quoted, “Indian Solar sector has indeed grown incredibly within recent years.  However, we need it to evolve at unprecedented rates to match the growth trajectory India has planned. Innovation is the only way to achieve that. That is why we are here. It is a collective effort to reach the solar to the next generation with the active engagement and contribution of young generation. And I personally believe it is working. The change is happening, we only need to come together and act for better results.”

Few of the innovators exhibiting their products were Mr. Mahesh Rathi (M/s Vishwamitra Electrical & Engineers Pvt Ltd) Mr.Subhendu Biswas (Green Growth Sustainability Services) Prof. Saroj Kumar Nayek (IIT Bhubaneswar), Aquatherm, Core Group, Ms Sangeeta Mohanty (Owen’s Corning) and Vikram Solar Ltd.

Mr Gyanesh Chaudhary, CEO and Managing Director, Vikram Solar commented, “This is a perfect platform to bring the various stakeholders of the solar energy community together to drive more innovation in this field. At Vikram Solar, we have always given a lot of precedence to innovation in everything we do and initiatives like these only goes to show the high levels of commitment we have towards the industry, our partners and ourselves.”

He further added “As the Indian solar industry expands rapidly and technology evolves on a daily basis, it is imperative to focus on innovation at every step and we are always keen on partnering with like minded stakeholders to organise similar events that would drive the future of solar energy in India and globally.”
