We are very excited to bring Pinkathon to Kolkata. We want the city to be part of this crusade that is being taken carried forward by a growing community of empowered women across India, who shares a belief that a healthy family, a healthy nation and a healthy world begins with empowered women. The first step in empowerment is taking control of your own health, respecting yourself and understanding and celebrating the value you bring to your family and society. Empowerment is not a gift of society; it is a gift you give yourself. I urge the men & women of Kolkata to come forward and wholeheartedly support this campaign.”
Mr Milind Soman Super Model, Actor, and the Creator of Pinkathon, The fitness icon further added, “Fitness is liberating. If a culture of regular exercise and fitness must take root in India, our women need to become aware about the benefits of fitness. They need to be able to get out and run, which doesn’t happen enough due to various cultural reasons. We now organize Pinkathon in eight cities. More than 10,000 women run at each of these across all four categories V Wash plus 3k, Mia by Tanishq 5 km, 10 km and 21 km distances. They run in running gear but also in sarees, salwar kameez, hijabs or whatever attire they deem fit and keeps them comfortable.”
Dr Rupali Basu, President and CEO ER, Apollo Hospitals Group, India, observed, “According to the National Population Based Cancer Registry, breast cancer is the most common cause for malignancies among women in our cities, including Kolkata, and accounts for about 25 – 32% of all recorded instances of the dreaded disease. Awareness, and the resultant ability to identify the warning signs and seek necessary support in time, however, can help us reverse the growing incidence of breast cancer, and lead to the creation of a world where the ravages of the disease are consigned to the pages of history. As the pioneers of comprehensive cancer care in Eastern India, we are therefore happy to be associated with Pinkathon, and welcome them to our vibrant state.”
Reema Sanghavi, Managing Director, Maximus Events further added “Besides Kolkata, Pinkathon has already been held in various cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Delhi, Guwahati, and Mumbai in the year 2016. We have recently concluded 5th edition of Bangalore in January 2017 . The multi-city national event has received an overwhelming expression of support with over 85,000 women of all ages, across different walks of life having participation in 8 cities in 2016. This number is expected to cross 1,00,000 in 2017 with 9 cities. The campaign will be supported by an integrated communication plan which includes several pre- event activities like training runs for baby wearing mothers, first time women runners and cancer survivors. There will also be an extensive online campaign to reach out to the masses and help the movement grow. We have also introduced the traditional attired cycle really and the Fearless midnights run.”
