Photo exhibition focusing on ‘World Tiger Day Celebration’

Tigers have been identified as one of the most-endangered species due to their killing and overall reduction of forests.When once tigers dominated the forest – they now can only be found in small numbers and even these are being eradicated at a fast pace.

Global / International Tiger day is a global initiative, to raise awareness for tiger conservation, held annually on 29th July. It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit. The goal of the day is to promote a global initiative for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues in order to save them from the brink of extinction.


Like every year this year too “AKHON ARANYAK” has taken this initiative to organize this Photography Exhibition cum Competition at ICCR , Kolkata. This exhibition aims to showcase photographs of wild tiger in natural environment by many enthusiastic wildlife photographers and there is also a special section of display where some renowned photographer’s works has been displayed for the viewers.


Among the all participants, Mr. Abhirup Ghosh Dastidar won the 1st prize and Mr. Nirmalya Chakrabarty & Mr. Amit Dhongde won 2nd & 3rd Prize respectively.


“AKHON ARANYAK” has been inaugurated and graced by eminent personalities like Wildlife Photographer Sri. Dhritiman Mukherjee, Sri Biswajit Roychoudhury (Famous Wildlife conservationist and Tiger Expert), Sri Badshah Maitra (Eminent screen personality and nature lover), Sri Sakti Ranjan Banerjee (Ex Regional Director – WWF), Sri Tublu Chatterjee (Tiger Expert), Srimati Satarupa Sanyal (Renowned film director, National award winner) and many others. Sri Dhritiman Mukherjee was also the jury member for the completion.
