METRO Cash & Carry set up its first store at Yeshwantpur in Bengaluru and since then has been growing its footprint in the country. Over the years, METRO has become synonymous with International benchmarked Quality & Food Safety, and is the first HACCP [Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point]-certified modern wholesaler. METRO has provided a platform to number of small and medium enterprises to grow their businesses significantly through its extensive network of 25 METRO Wholesale stores in 11 cities. They have been able to access the shelf space, storage, multi-market access, multi-customer base through METRO’s expansive network at an optimal cost. Today, 99% products METRO sells here are ‘Made in India, locally sourced from SMEs & local suppliers. METRO is also leading the way in kirana digitization which enables small kiranas to digitize their operations and modernize their backend systems with state of the art billing terminals. The company is also offering interest free credit solutions for traders/ kiranas helping them optimize their working capital.
To strengthen the agrarian eco-system, METRO runs a DIRECT FARM programme wherein it has set up six collection centers to procure fresh Fruits and Vegetables directly from farmers. The company sources over 12000 MT of produce per annum and the programme has positively impacted over 5000 registered farmers across the country.
