Currently, around one-third of the population in India are living with metabolic syndrome, the majority of them being women.1 Increasing inactivity and Westernization of the Indian diet are partly to blame. Multinational fast food companies with huge advertising budgets have radically changed the way in which Indian adults and children eat, and the rush to copy the Western model has led to even easier access to unhealthy food choices.

SKM Group, Kolkata based business organization, is an ethical Conglomerate who believes in doing Good Business and Contributing to the Society. SKM group has multiple diversified businesses ranging from Iron Ore Mines, Steel Plant, Multi-specialty Hospital, Hotel, School and Healthcare Education Institute and Cold Storages. Now SKM group are further expanding the horizons in the healthcare industry with the launch of VITABOLIK PHARMACEUTICALS PVT. LTD.

The inauguration of Vitabolik Pharmaceutical was done by Dr. Shantanu Sen, Secretary IMA Bengal & Member Medical Council (WB), today in Kolkata in the presence of Mr. Susil Kumar Misra, Chairman, SKM Group, Mr. Subhasis Dasgupta, Managing Director, Vitabolik Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Prashant Sharma, MD SKM Group and senior officials of SKM Group. Vitabolik Pharmaceuticals will operate in the segment of Metabolic Disorders.

At the launch ceremony, Dr. Shantanu Sen, Secretary IMA Bengal & Member Medical Council (WB) said, “India today is poised to become the Capital of Metabolic Disorders of the world. Sedentary lifestyles, stressful life, lack of exercise and unhealthy diet are the major cause of increasing rate of such epidemic. Overall metabolic disorders today are becoming the leading cause of deaths or loss of healthy life. More importantly, the treatment cost and economic loss caused by such complications are substantial. It is the need of the hour that we offer proper and affordable treatment to combat metabolic disorders. I am really proud that a pharmaceutical company from my State has taken up this cause and we wish all the success to Vitabolik Pharmaceuticals.”

Hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, cholesterol abnormalities and obesity today shows a phenomenal increase across India and are major cause of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and blindness. Metabolic disorders also contribute to depression and sexual dysfunction. Lack of awareness, scarcity of adequate healthcare infrastructure and services, which are affordable and accessible, further increases the misery and burden to an individual.

Mr. Susil Kumar Misra, Chairman, SKM Group taking clue from the Minister’s speech said, “We at SKM Group aims to make Vitabolik Pharmaceuticals the trusted partner of healthcare society with focus on Cardio – Diabetic Disorders. Our principle is not only to earn for ourselves but also to give back to society. Hence, Vitabolik will also strive to reach out to each corner of the society with healthcare specialists through multiple patient awareness and screening programs under the banner of “SPANDAN – the Rhythm of Life”.

Mr. Subhasis Dasgupta, MD, Vitabolik Pharmaceuticals, said, “We at Vitabolik have a long term vision of Healing, Caring & Rejuvenating the metabolic health of India. The company has step wise plan of expanding to all India with its first launch happening from Bengal, followed by Delhi. We strongly believe that by offering quality medicines at an affordable price and making it accessible to all, we will be able to reduce the burden of metabolic disorders to some extent and promote healthy life.”
