Foundation Stone laid for ICSI – Centre of Excellence


CSI celebrated its Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony and Bhoomi Poojan of the “ICSI Centre of Excellence”, Kolkata at Plot No. IIA/35, New Town Action Area IIA, Kolkata. On this occasion “ ICSI Uday Diwas” (The Day of Statutory Recognition  ) was also celebrated.Shri Debashish Sen, IAS, Chairman & Managing Director, WBHIDCO Ltd and Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of West Bengal  graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

While addressing the august gathering, Shri Debashish Sen said that, Kolkata’s NewTown Area ,where ICSI – Centre of Excellence is coming up , is an imminent Educational Hub and in the near future it will be the Singapore of Kolkata with the opening up of Universities and Institutes  like IIT Kharagpur, Rabindra Bharti University, Presidency University, Aliah University, Amity University so on. The ICSI CoE  will soon be a part of this  education hub of Bengal. He also said that It is being increasingly realized all over the world that economic wellbeing and productive efficiencies can be realised with higher intellectual and professional capabilities of human beings” and Institutes like ICSI have  a major role to play in economic upliftment of  the country by setting up Centres for Training   and Excellence for professionals for upgrading their skills and knowledge.

CS Mamta Binani, President, ICSI , while addressing the august gathering in her address on the anniversary of the ICSI’s statutory recognition, “UDAY DIWAS”, said that, “Statutory Recognition Day” has a significant role in every organisation and for an organisation like ICSI it is all the more important, as it depicts the journey which started as small steps which have traversed long distance and this moment is to rejoice with the memories which made The Institute of Company Secretaries of India  reach great heights .CS Mamta Binani, President, ICSI, also said that  the Bhooomi Poojan of the Centre of Excellence at Kolkata signifies the start of a new era for  research for professionals at Eastern and North Eastern India. She said that the CoE is a dream for the professionals here and it took a lot of effort, hard work, patience, resilience from everybody to realize this dream of setting up the Centre today.

CS Santosh K Agarwala, Council Member and Member Infrastructure Committee of CoE- Kolkata, said that,  “ICSI’s glorious ongoing journey has reached another milestone today as we are celebrating it as ‘Uday Diwas’. ICSI has undergone a great Journey to bring professional excellence through corporate compliances, corporate governance to be the basis of Corporate culture in India and service to the nation. He also said that Centre of Excellence would give in-house training to member, students, officers of Govt. & regulatory Bodies on Corporate Governance & Corporate Laws and would feature a state of the art auditorium & library.

CS Vineet K Choudhary, Council Member, ICSI in his address said that the Companies Act, 2013 has opened great opportunities  for Company Secretaries in number of areas such as insolvency, winding up, valuation, corporate restructuring etc., in addition to the vibrant areas such as secretarial audit , secretarial standards, related attestation services, opportunities for company secretaries have widened in a great way. In his address to the gathering he said that Kolkata, the city of joy is the city of intellectuals, a city of vision and to enhance the abilities of the professionals.CS Sandip Kr Kejriwal, Chairman EIRC of ICSI was also present on the occasion.CS  Dinesh Chandra Arora , Secretary,  ICSI  delivered the vote of thanks.
