Rachel Carson in her book  Silent Spring explained how indiscriminate application of agricultural chemicals, pesticides, and other modern chemicals polluted our streams, damaged bird and animal populations, and caused severe medical problems for humans.

Moreover, in light of the health benefits associated with consumption of organic food and rise in the number of diseases on account of excessive chemical contamination of conventional food, the preference for organic food is growing rapidly.

Recently , Development Research Communication and Services Centre (DRCSC), non-governmental development organization organised Safe World Festival ,Basundhara Utsav.

DRCSC helps rural, marginalized families to use natural resources such as land, water, soil, plants and animals for food and livelihood security, disaster and climate change adaptation, and vocational training of youth. It implements its programs through 8-10 community-based partners across 12 districts in West Bengal.

The visitors were happy to be a part of a movement that is growing in cities all around the world in an age when genetically modified foods have taken over most of the world produce.According to India Organic Food Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2020, the market for organic food in India is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of over 25 percent during 2015-20.
