Environment Management Division of Steel Authority of India Limited celebrated this World Environment Day with much enthusiasm and energy. To spread awareness amongst its employees and community, in particular, regarding harmful impacts of plastic waste on the surrounding environment, SAIL-EMD had organised week long programme in consonance with the theme of this year’s environment day, i.e. Beat Plastic Pollution. Events include, hoisting of environment flag, awareness workshop for banning single use plastic for contractual as well as regular employees of SAIL units at Kolkata, technical talk on plastic pollution by eminent environment scientist and quiz on plastic pollution for SAIL employees.
To commemorate the occasion of 5th June, one tableau decorated with collage of photographs on the theme of “Beat Plastic Pollution” and visual display of devastating effects of single-use plastic on LED screen with background narration in Bengali moved along the strategic locations of Kolkata to spread the message of “stoppage of single-use plastic”
A Nukkad Natak on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” by children from ‘Shilpolok’ an amateur group was staged at crowded street corners and community places like Metro Channel, New Market, Nandan, among others. In each location performance was applauded by big crowds from every strata of society.
